African…Af-we-can!

Growing up…because I am from Ghana – and am relatively dark – with a funny last name – I was made fun as such…more specifically…I can recall the many times I was called an African Booty Scratcher…asked about Tarzan, why my people wear loin cloth, spear chuck, etc etc…

So to see a fellow “african booty scratcher” with an equally funny name as mine – win the democratic nomination – and become the president presumptive of the United States of America…needless to say…I’m a bit boosted. As such…I decided to wear – what most call a dashiki to work (actually I’m lying…I’m wearing a dashiki…and linen pants…because I live in atlanta…and its hot as hell down here…speaking of which…so I’m wearing my “ethnic” garb today – and someone notices and says…”nice shoes” – as I’m about to give that person the side eye…I do realize…my shoes are ji on point)

but I digress -

Although Obama’s win is ground breaking (just like it was ground breaking for an Irish Catholic to win the same nomination <JFK people> ) he still has a long way to go:

I preface the following by saying I am far from a political analyst – simply stating my opinions – so you are free to disagree or correct me – but by no means am I saying the following is the gospel truth:

- The democratic party is splintered for obvious reasons <cough> Hillary <cough> – so one of the things that need to happen is Barack AND Hillary will need to fix this so that the democrats can be on a united front…because the Republicans can and will use that towards that advantage

- There are many who are still talking about this said dream team – Obama Prez – Clinton VP…are you kidding me? The same chick that attempted to run Obama’s name through the mud – who enacted dirty politics to try to win the nomination…as his VP…scoff…I think she has shown her inept ability to lead this country…and it would be a disservice to all americans to give her any type of leadership position within our government – yes I said it!

- I do believe that she is trying to chump Obama into making her VP…and he should say no. Honestly…if he cant stand up to Hillary…then he cant stand up for the country…Obama…bros before hos (well…one in particular) yes I said it!

- Further…Hillary…you lost…why won’t you bow out?! Quit saying that you are the better candidate…all you are doing is making yourself look crazy…and ensuring that you will never be president of this country…and in my opinion – you are setting back women in politics – like sit down…yes I said it!

Obama may win the Presidency…but it will take a lot of work…and I wont be surprised if scandalous information comes out about Obama within the next few months. But it doesn’t matter…the president presumptive is African! He has set a new precedent…to be a successful black man…you need to be married to a successful supportive black female (I see you Michelle). Did you see the lack of thugary, coonery, or tomfoolery?

yes we can Af-ri-can

God Bless America…and no place else

The Doctor Kweku Mensah endorses this message (and if you must know it means third born boy born on Wednesday)

say something about my name….

  1. You’re right, this is a victory for Africans everywhere.

So Hills is looking like a real sore loser by refusing to concede. She needs to just let it go and bow out like a lady, Come on now – save some semblance of dignity.

    YEAH KWEKU!

  2. LOL! I just did a post and was like Obama ‘08 cuz there’s really nothing else to be said although I’m pissed at Hills cuz she gone say “she gotta decide what to do next”. Umm excuse, what do you mean? What you need to do is go sit down and IF Obama decides to make you his runnin mate (which I hope he doesn’t) for the good of the party then ok but seriously, GO.SIT.DA.FUK.DOWN cuz you are officially a clown. I’m done.

P.S. I am crackin up @ you and that potential side eye.

    P.S.S That name kinda sexy….

  3. yeah, it’s cool to be alive to see such an awesome event take place! my concern, tho, is this. and beforehand i too admit that i’m no political analyst (i mean, i won student council elections twice. does that count for something?)

i don’t necessarily buy the issue that obama maringalized church goers by resigning from his church. i mean, most people switch churches when they don’t like the music. and i’m sure most people know that 75% percent of those comments made by said preachers are hogwash.

however, i’m interested to see how obama deals with white folks. you know, the crazy, conferedate flag wearing ones.

  4. Farah Lolade Iyabode Aduke Lawal endorses this message as well! And I agree w/ your comments about Hillary.

  5. I know that’s right…I wish I had an African name, cause I’d rep it too!! But instead I’ll just represent my typical black African American “saw on the back of a car so I’mma name my child that” name…sigh

  6. Definitely an honor to be alive and a part of this historical moment. We have come a long way as a people and together as a county – NOW is time for us to raise up and keep paying attention. I totally agree with your thoughts. I just hope/pray that the other factors and politics don’t get in the way of who the people choose like last time…Peace and have a great weekend, Doc.

  7. I have much respect for my truely African brothers and sisters! I am glad that this country has the potential to be governed by such an esteemed man. Sorry Hil…better luck next time, but we’ll definately take the money and support :) . In conclusion…I must say that it is time for us to live up to the standards of this new tapestry, race is unique and nontransferable let us be the difference. Even if my last name is given to my anscestors by some slave owner- I too am America! I too sing- OBAMA ‘08!!!
